Green Group Leader Richard Bennett and Deputy Leader Andree Frieze, who are elected councillors for Richmond Borough, have been selected to stand as the Green Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidates for Twickenham and Richmond Park parliamentary constituencies.
Richard Bennett is Councillor for South Twickenham ward and has lived in Twickenham for more than 40 years. Formerly vice president of a large American corporation, Richard is the Leader of the Greens in the council. Richard works hard to achieve cross-party support for policies responding to climate change, and he is determined that Richmond can become the greenest borough in London.
Cllr Bennett says: “The next General Election should not be solely focused on Brexit. Green issues must be given greater prominence. I believe that the other political parties will only do this when voters give them the message by opting to vote Green.”
Andree Frieze is Councillor for Ham, Petersham & Richmond Riverside ward and is also the candidate for the South West Constituency seat for the 2020 London Assembly Election. Previously Andree was the Green Party candidate in both the 2015 General Election and 2016 London Assembly Elections. Andree has lived in Ham for 19 years and is an active member of her local community, sitting on both Ham Parade Market and Ham & Petersham Neighbourhood Forum committees and as governor for Meadlands School.
Cllr Frieze says: “This is clearly going to be a difficult General Election with Brexit yet again the main focus. Green Party policy is to have a People’s Vote on any Deal, with the option to Remain on the ballot paper. However, we cannot let Brexit override the ongoing Climate Emergency which poses an existential threat to all life on this planet. A vote for me and the Green Party is a vote to save the world.”
