Green Party councillor resigns his Hampton Wick ward seat

It's with much regret we announce that Dylan Baxendale has decided to resign as Councillor for the Hampton Wick Ward, the seat he won in the May 2018 elections.

We and the other Councillors have been in discussions about this - with input from Green Party officers - and explored with Dylan whether there were other options or support we could offer to enable him to remain. After giving this much thought he decided it was in his and his family's interest - and those of the party and local residents - that he should stand aside completely so he can focus on his business which has been badly hit by the coronavirus crisis.

We absolutely respect his decision and will offer Dylan whatever support we can. Arrangements will be made to cover Dylan's Council Committee duties where possible.

At some point there will be a by-election, though presently elections are suspended until May 2021. We expect to contest that election and will get on with selecting a candidate and building their profile in the ward so that we can hold onto this precious seat.

We wish Dylan all the best. He has assured us that he "won't be a stranger" and is still strongly committed to this party and what it stands for and will be involved again in the future.
