Chas Warlow - candidate statement
I live in Ham, Richmond, with my wife and two daughters and I’m currently working for a supplier and installer of electric vehicle chargepoints.
I’ve been a member of the Green Party for six or seven years and I’ve been the ward coordinator for Ham, Petersham and Richmond Riverside for most of the last five years.
Over the past five years:
- I’ve coordinated newsletter deliveries and action days
- I’ve surveyed and canvassed the households of Ham, Petersham and Richmond Hill, not to mention Hampton Wick and North Kingston
- I’ve phoned new members to encourage them to become more active
- In 2018 I campaigned with Andree Frieze on Ham Parade residents’ behalf to get their food waste collected by Richmond Council – previously, residents of flats had been ineligible for food waste collections.
I’ve been involved in several community-led projects, firstly as project leader of the Teddington & Ham Hydro project – a community-led renewable energy scheme – and then as coordinator of a group of “Street Champions” who helped to make Ham & Petersham a “Low Carbon Zone”.
For many years I’ve also been a leading member of Ham United Group, a community organisation that promotes projects with an ecological and sustainable focus.
Our current Green councillors on Richmond Council have been working tirelessly to promote the green agenda but there are now only three of them. I would love to join that team and help to increase our number in the next local elections. We are now respected members of the political scene in Richmond and we need to push on from here. I believe that my experience at the local community level and also my insight into electioneering and the political process makes me the right person to do just that.
Members should have received their online ballot paper, and have until midday on 13 August to register their vote.
